English Version: Music Art and Street Performances in Torino
The City of Torino has been for a long time open and welcoming towards street performances, considering them to be important and useful to the creative and culturally positive atmosphere in our city.
As street performances, the City of Torino art and busker activities are performances given in public spaces (squares, sidewalks, pedestrian areas) ranging from artists that give music shows to circus performances and other street activities.
While performing in Torino all artists are invited to follow the “Code of ethics for street performers”, a declaration recently approved by the City of Torino.
Please note that for all performances, using repertoire subject to copyright, it is necessary to obtain a license from the collective copyright management bodies (Siae, Lea, etc.).
In Torino you can perform freely, with no permit, in all the city from 10 am to 10 pm.
To make these performances and activities more enjoyable for the audience and for the citizens living in the central area of the city, we decided to experiment a booking system with fixed hours for different showplaces through a free web app named Arthecity.
The central area of the city includes Piazza Castello, the first part of Via Garibaldi, the Roman quadrilatero to piazzetta IV Marzo, via Lagrange, via Carlo Alberto, Piazza San Carlo, Piazzetta CLN. We have identified specific sites and times (.pdf) where artists can perform.
For buskers using amplifiers, portable amps and/or percussions that want to perform in those areas, the booking is required – you can do it in real time too – via the Arthecity web app. The app is free of charge and available via the internet, smartphones and tablets. You can choose the site and the time at which you want to perform all the while informing all registered users about your performance.
The City of Torino has always been welcoming towards street arts and performances, since it considers them important in enhancing the creative and cultural atmosphere of the city.
As street performances the City defines all the performances held in public spaces (such as squares, pavements, pedestrian areas, etc) by artists who provide entertainment with music, theatre, dance, magic, juggling or other disciplines.
While performing in Torino all artists are invited to respect the Code of Ethics for Street Performers approved by the City of Torino. Please note that for performances with repertoire subject to copyright, it is necessary to obtain a licence from a recognised institution (such as Siae, Lea, etc).
Artists that create and sell their original creative works on the spot, as unique pieces (painters, portraitists, caricaturists, etc) are not required to obtain the selling on public space licence.
In Torino you can perform freely, with no permit, in all the city from 10 am to 10 pm, with an exception of the city centre.
The city center is the area delimited between Piazza Castello, the first portion of Via Garibaldi, the Roman quadrilateral up to Piazzetta IV Marzo, the pedestrian areas in Via Lagrange and Via Carlo Alberto and the Piazza San Carlo area, up to Piazza Carlo Felice. To perform in these areas, it is necessary to follow these specific times and sites.
For activities and performances in the city center, in order to make them more accessible for citizens and compatible with the needs of residents, it was decided to test a booking system for public spaces with fixed hours through the Arthecity website (https://torino.arthecity.com).
All the artists using amplifiers, portable amps and/or percussions that want to perform in those areas, the booking is required via the Arthecity website mentioned above. You can also download the free app but it is necessary to create your own profile.
While booking your slot through the app, you can choose the site and the time at which you want to perform all the while informing all registered users about your performance. The booking can be made in real time
The website is also open for consultation for tourists and citizens that want to identify scheduled performances.
