The
area called "
carts", situated between via Porta Palatina,
C.so Regina and via XX settembre, has been the subject of an aesthetic-functional
intervention which has involved the closing off of the perimeter described
using large metallic hoardings portraying theatrical scenes of particular
visual impact. The temporary location of the equipment for the construction
of the covered walkway, an aesthetic and safety requalification of the
routes taken during the display of the Holy Shroud and the desire to
increase safety levels for those walking in the piazza, were the elements
which, starting from the end of 1997, the Council of Turin evaluated
in order to decide on the implementation of the said intervention. The
initiative managed by The Gate Porta Palazzo Project and created by
the Stabile Theatre of Turin is still visible and represents an original
visual reference for an important access point to the city centre. A
polychromic lighting system increases its evocative impact and underlines
its forms and colours, including at night.
Decided in June 1998 6 months for the work
to be carried out ended in December 1998 it will remain the patrimony
of the city until the revaluation interventions of the archaeological
patrimony planned for the area next to the Cathedral.
