WHAT IT'S ABOUT
The Corso Regina Margherita underpass
is a project whose principal aim was that of facilitating movement in
the area around the Porta Palazzo market.
The structure of the underpass, some 800 m long overall (with 400 m
covered) has made it possible to by-pass the crucial node of Piazza
della Repubblica, leaving the local traffic on the perimeter of the
piazza itself and thereby rendering the entire area much less congested.
The underpass was made using open digging with the aid of lateral hoardings.
The tunnel was made using prefabricated elements. The tunnel is equipped
with a ventilation system and emergency exit. Road signs with varying
messages have also been set up.
The underpass project is part of the general requalification of the
entire area of Porta Palazzo and Borgo Dora which aims at the tangible
rebirth of the district.
