WORLD WIDE TORINO AT ESPERIENZA ITALIA 150°

The rich programme of events of World Wide Torino at Italia 150 ended on the 20th of November 2011 with the closing of the Officine Grandi Riparazioni. During the nine months that saw Torino as the protagonist of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the Unity of Italy, Torino's friend and twinned cities alternated on the stage of Officine Grandi Riparazioni. More than fifty events including exhibitions, concerts, workshops, theatre and dance shows aroused a large and enthusiastic participation of the audience of Italia 150.

Italy celebrates the world and the world celebrates Italy

At the Officine Grandi Riparazioni from March 16th 2011 to Novembre 20th 2011, on the occasion of the 150th Anniversary of the Unification of Italy, a multimedia exhibition describes the relations between the world and the City of Torino, the Province of Torino and the Piedmont Region, through images, videos and a rich programme of events. Seventy-eight friend cities and territories celebrate Italy and Italy celebrates the world. The complete programme of all the events WWT at Esperienza Italia | PDF (273 Kb) is available.

Glasgow at Italia 150 - November 19th

The Lord Provost of Glasgow Bob Winter starts the final celebrations of the Scottish day at Esperienza Italia together with the President of the City Council of the City of Torino Giovanni Maria Ferraris. The day, which closes the project WWT at Esperienza Italia 150°, hosted many important Scottish guests: creative drawing laboratory with the contemporary artist Dave Sherry, Celtic sounds with the concerto of Caulbums Ceilidh, Sylvia Barnes and Sandy Stanage featuring Highlands dances performed by Olivia Black, debate on the Italian immigration in Scotland with the director Sergio Casci, who on the occasion presents his first full-length film American Cousins. Typical tasting by Findlater's Fine Foods, Whyte and Mackay, Tennent's.

Volgograd at Italia 150 - from November 10th to November 17th

On November 12 a performance staged by the dance company Volzhanochka of Volgograd which, dressed in typical clothes, presents a show of folkloristic Russian dances. Music from the popular tradition alternate with pieces of the great Russian composers like Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev. Stage management by Olga Ananieva.

From November 10th to 17th at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni a photo and traditional clothes exhibition is staged, which brings to the knowledge of Torino's citizens a territory with whom the City has 50 years long relations. Such relations culminate exactly at the OGR, in Sala Duomo, on November 11th, with the signature by the Mayor of Torino, Piero Fassino, and the Vice Mayor of Volgograd, Irina B. Elinetskaya, of a cooperation agreement. The two politicians awarded then the children of the Elementary School Leone Sinigaglia winner of the international drawing contest of the city of Volgograd.

Nagoya at Italia 150 - from November 3 to November 9

On November 4th and 5th the Japanese Samurais are on stage at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni for a suggestive martial arts exhibition. Furthermore, on November 4th, for the inauguration of the exhibition a group of citizens from Nagoya gives Shodo calligraphy and origami demonstrations.

From November 3rd to 9th at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni the eastern traditions and the great Japanese development are shown through a particular exhibition, Nagoya Spirit. Inauguration on November 4th in the presence of the Mayor of Torino Piero Fassino and of the Mayor of Nagoya Takashi Kawamura, following the celebrations at the Valentino Park for the gift of 30 Japanese cherries from the Japanese City to the capital city of Piedmont.

Republic of Poland at Italia 150 - from October 21st to November 20th

On October 21st at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni the President of the City Council of the City of Torino Giovanni Maria Ferraris inaugurates the first of several events dedicated to Poland, in the presence of the authorities that contributed to their realization: the Vice Consul General of Poland in Milan Michal Górski, the Honorary Consul of Poland in Torino Ulrico Leiss de Leimburg, the President of the Polish Community in Torino Wanda Romer Sartorio. The opening ceremony of the exhibition "For Our and Your freedom. Polish people in the Italian Risorgimento", curated by Krystyna Jaworska, in the presence of the Director of the Polish Accademy of Humanistic Sciences in Rome Andrzej Leszek, was folllowed by the concert of the young Polish musician Gaja Kunce. On October 22nd it's on stage the original theatre performance "In the head of W" realized by the company "Mangrova Teatro", directed and performed by Beata Dudek and Davide Capostagno, based on the drama The Madman and The Nun of the Polish writer Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz. On October 23rd follows a second musical rendezvous with the piano concert of Maria Kasznia and Eleonora Siciliano who perform Chopin's pieces.

Rotterdam at Italia 150 - September 29th

On September 29th at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni the Cities of Torino and Rotterdam, historically twinned since 1958 and characterized by similar historical urban processes, discuss about the link between architecture and sustainability in post-industrial cities.

Lyon at Italia 150 - September 23rd

On September 23rd at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni the citizens are invited by the Mayor of Lyon Gérard Collomb and the Mayor of Torino Piero Fassino to Festin d'Oreille: the chefs from Lyon Philippe Chavent and Jean Brouilly together with the chef from Torino Antonio Romano doing the cooking on the notes of the Jazz collective Arfi, for a culinary, sound and visual feast delighting the five senses.

Kragujevac at Italia 150 - September 16th

On September 16th at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni round-table Kragujevac-Torino to illustrate the recent collaboration and the future perspectives between the two Cities that share an historical industrial vocation and recent reconversion processes.

Harbin at Italia 150 - from September 8th to September 15th

The President of the City Council of the City of Torino Giovanni Maria Ferraris and the Vice President of the People's Congress of Harbin Wang Tieqiang inaugurate at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni the photo exhibition "The culture of ice and snow in Harbin" that brings in Torino the magic of Chinese Ice Sculptures.

Nice at Italia 150 - from August 30th to September 7th

At the Officine Grandi Riparazioni exhibition-event from August 30th to September 7th which tells, through the clicks of the photographer Olivier Monge and the comments of the historian of art and architecture Agnčs Monges, "NICE-TORINO une histoire commune - a common history" whose characteristic features are the Route Royale, the Baroque and urban architecture.

Ekateinburg looks to the future: from July 3rd to July 10th, at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni Ekaterinburg tells its past and its perspectives through a photo exhibition by Metenkov House - Museum of Photography.

Petrushka's Carnival: on the occasion of the inauguration of the exhibition "Ekateinburg looks to the future" on July 3rd, straight from Russia to the Officine Grandi Riparazioni, an amazing puppet show by the Puppet Theatre of Ekaterinburg.

Buenos Aires at Italia 150 - From June 29th to July 2nd

From June 29th to July 2nd, at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni, the photo exhibition of Gonzalo del Carril “No hay tierra como la mia” is on stage, through which the atmospheres and suggestions summoned by tango become the metaphor of the feelings excited by an emigration land such as Argentina. In parallel film review from the Festival of Independent Cinema of Buenos Aires: June 29th “El hombre que baila” (Sergio Ainsenstein e Pablo Pintor, 2010); June 30th “Orquesta típica” (Nicolás Entel, 2006); July 1st “Tango deseo” (Edgardo Cozarinsky, 2002) and “Yo no sé que me han hecho tus ojos” (Lorena Muñoz e Sergio Wolf, 2003).

On June 29th official inauguration of the exhibition dedicated to Buenos Aires on the occasion of the second edition of the European Tango Championship and Festival: the writers Nicola de Concilio, Matias Marini and Rosa Ucci share their thoughts on the bond between tango and Italian emigration to Argentina and introduce the exhibition of Argentinean musician and dancers.

Salt Lake City at Italia 150 - June 3rd and 4th

On June 3rd and 4th at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni the Wild West is on stage thanks to the rhythm of country ballads with the duo Lannie “The Marshal” Scopes and Craig “Creek” Johnson and Navajo dances.

TORINO-DETROIT-DETROIT-TORINO - from May 9th to May 17th

On May 10th, at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni, inauguration of the photo exhibition, on stage until May 17th, which compares the two cities through the pictures of Geoff George and Piero Ottaviano, with the accompaniment of an ensemble of students of the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi of Torino and of the Wayne State University, supported by the Detroit Jazz Festival and Mack Records and directed by Chris Collins. The event is part of the Detroit Torino Urban Jazz Festival which brought to the Teatro Regio, on May 9th, the premiere of the execution of two pieces commissioned to the composers James Hartway and Carlo Boccadoro, in a concert of the jazz musicians Emanuele Cisi, Chris Collins, Furio Di Castri e Sean Dobbins, together with the Orchestra Filarmonica ?900 and accompanied by the photos of Piero Ottaviano and Geoff George.

Cologne at Italia 150 - from May 6th to June 3rd

At the Teatro Vittoria, on May 7th, the greek director Kostas Papakostopoulos with the theatre acting company Deutsch Griechisches Theater and musics of Herbet Mitschke, describes the issue of emigration through the dreams, hopes and delusions of the migrants.

The City of Torino offers, from May 6th to June 3rd, the spaces of its own Historic Archive, for the exhibition which reports the collapse in 2009 and the following reconstruction of the Historic Archive of the City of Cologne.

"Speriamo che... Espérons que..." - from May 2nd to May 8th

The Deputy Mayor of the City of Torino in charge of Culture and of the 150th Anniversary of Italy's Unification, Fiorenzo Alfieri inaugura, inaugurates, on May 2nd, the exhibition staged at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni and dedicated to 150 years of Italian and Piedmontese emigration to Savoy and High Savoy.

Welcome to Chambéry - from April 22nd to May 1st

April 30th, the parade through the city centre and the following exhibition at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni of the folk groups La Savoie, Les Dames du Covet and La Compagnie du Sarto close the programme of initiatives.

April 23rd, at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni concert of La Roulotte and then the show bENVEGNA by the Gambit Acting Company.

April 22nd and 23rd, the circus companies Arc en Cinque and Cirko Vertigo, enliven the Officine Grandi Riparazioni, with the accompaniment of the Fanfare Etcetera Orchestra.

Official moments: April 22nd, the Deputy Mayor Giovanni Maria Ferraris and the Mayor of Chambéry Bernadette Laclais, officially open two weeks of celebrations and events dedicated to the French city and the exhibition Welcome to Chambéry, displayed at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni.

Hungary at Italia 150 - from April 8th to 20th

Art week at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni, from April 14th to 20th the exhibition Virtual Hungary is on stage. The Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Hungary, Csaba Hende, together with the Ambassador of the Republic of Hungary in Italy, Janos Balla, took part in the inauguration, welcomed by the Deputy Mayor Giovanni Maria Ferraris.

Music week at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni: Marta Sebestyén in concert on April 9th, followed by the Kerekes Band on April 14th and the grand final on April 16th with the Karaván Família.

Shenzhen at Italia 150 - April 8th

On April 8th at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni the show of oriental dance and music, New Oriental Rhythm, is on stage, enriched by the performance of the Out of Time Percussion Quartet from the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi of Torino.

Official moments: the Deputy Mayor Giovanni Maria Ferraris has an official meeting with the delegation of the City of Shenzhen and then opens the evening together with the Vice President of the Municipal Congress of the Chinese City, Guangmin Zhou.

Press Conference World Wide Torino

On March 22nd 2011 during a Press Conference at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni the Deputy Mayor Giovanni Maria Ferraris presented the exhibition "World Wide Torino - Piedmont Embraces the World", organized by the City of Torino, the Province of Torino and the Piedmont Region and "World Wide Torino a Esperienza Italia" a programme of events and international guests hosted by the City of Torino on the occasion of the 150th Anniversary of the Unification of Italy.

Tallinn-Montecarlo Electric Marathon

The rally of electric vehicles promoted within the framework of the initiatives for Tallinn European Capital of Culture 2011, organized by the Foundation Prince Albert II of Monaco and FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) stops in Torino, within the framework of the Torino Smart City initiative. The event, which came up from an agreement signed by the City of Tallinn and the Honorary Consul of Monaco in Tallin Jüri Tamm, has seen about ten electric race cars duelling in a punctuality challenge across 8 European nations and 24 cities. The Deputy Mayor of the City of Torino in charge of Environment Enzo Lavolta took part in the exhibition of electric vehicles staged in Via Roma, at the finish line of the leg, where all the excellences of the territory were exposed: from the 1955 Balilla transformed into an electric vehicle by the City of Torino to the prototypes Idra, BullET and SC08H of the Politecnico of Torino, through the e-vehicles of Amiat, GTT and Cinemambiente.
