La mano destra appoggiata al petto, la sinistra stretta a un libro sul tavolo alle sue spalle: il cavalier Catone accenna un gesto melodrammatico, poi trattenuto come per un soprassalto di modestia.  Quest’uomo serio staziona nel giardino di quello che fu il Regio Istituto di Riposo per la Vecchia (noto come l’Ospizio dei Poveri Vecchi) dove fa compagnia, da lontano, a un altro benemerito a lui gemello nella generosità, oltre che nella posa.

His right hand resting on his chest, his left hand gripping a book on the table behind him: Catone seems to be about to perform a melodramatic act, but then he held it up, jolting by modesty.  This earnest man stands in the gardens of what was once the Ospizio dei Poveri Vecchi (Poor-House), where he keeps another benefactor company from afar, both of them equally generous, and shown in similar poses.
