L’aria pacifica di chi vive di studio, assorto in pensieri e calcoli, ben si addice al geniale matematico e fondatore della fisica meccanica, scienziato di cui tutta l’Europa si contese i servigi: dopo Torino, lavorò a Berlino e soprattutto a Parigi, dove scrisse la Meccanica Analitica (1788) e lavorò per la riforma del sistema dei pesi e delle misure fino alla morte.

The peaceful air of someone lining on studies, absorbed in thinking and calculating is very proper for the ingenious mathematician and founder of mechanical physics, a scientist whose services were in demand all over Europe. After Turin, he worked at Berlin and mainly Paris, where he wrote “Mechanics and Analysis” in 1788 and worked on reforming the weights and measures system until his death.
