Castore e Polluce, gli inseparabili Dioscuri della mitologia greca, vigilano dall’alto l’ingresso di Palazzo Reale, in groppa a irrequieti cavalli. La coppia è speculare ma non identica, simbolo di amicizia nella diversità: solo sul capo di Polluce brilla la stella dell’immortalità. La posa è dinamica e sciolta, come si addice ai due patroni della cavalleria, arma che ebbe speciale prestigio nell’esercito sabaudo.

Castor and Pollux, the inseparables of Greek mythology, look down on and control
the entry to the Royal Palace, on the backs of two restless horses. The couple is specular but not identical, a symbol of being friends even when different. The star of immortality only shines on Pollux’s head. The pose is dynamic and easy, as it should be for the two patrons of Cavalry, the Corps that enjoyed especial prestige in the House of Savoy’s Army.
