Under the porticoes, walking towards the river through a street full of coffee-houses, pubs and historical palaces. A route passing through several Academy Painting Schools, the decorative arts items of an elegant house-museum and all the charm of cinema inside the Mole Antonelliana.
Via Po links piazza Castello with piazza Vittorio Veneto and the river. It was a backbone for the urban development process of the town, designed by the court architect Amedeo di Castellamonte in 1673. There are columned porticos on both sides of the street: those ones on the Royal Palace side were linked with covered passages, to allow the court to walk sheltered from the rain or heat until they reached the Po river.
It is one of the most frequented street, full with stores and bookshops among palaces, precious churches and historical buildings. One of them is the Rectorate Building of the University of Turin, constructed by Vittorio Amedeo II at the beginning of the eighteenth century. A bit farther up the street you cross via Accademia Albertina, where you find the Pinacoteca della Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti. (Picture Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts).
