The relations between Torino and Volgograd originate from the common historical events linked to the resistance of both cities to the occupation of Nazi military forces during World War II. Since the Sixties of the last century the two cities have developed joint initiatives, formalized officially in 2011 with the signing of a Collaboration Agreement. In December 2020, in order to increase their relations, they signed a new Collaboration Pact including joint initiatives in the economic, academic and cultural fields.

Formerly called Caricyn, in 1925 the city took the name of Stalingrad. In 1961 it was renamed Volgograd; located in the European Russia, the city stretches for about 70 km on the west side of the Volga River. With about a million inhabitants, it is an important industrial center, home to shipyards, oil refineries, steel, aluminum, chemicals manufacturing companies and a large hydroelectric plant.

The exhibition, organized under the patronage of the Consulate General of Russia in Milan, is curated, for the City of Volgograd, by Sergey Zheltov, a reporter affiliated to the Volgograd newspaper “Gorodskiye Vesti”. Through these photos the author wants to represent the life of the city in its different seasons and occasions through its nature, landscapes and people.
