The Deputy Mayor in charge of Development, Innovation, Environment, Green and Public Hygiene of the City of Torino Enzo Lavolta led a territorial mission to Bagan and Yangon in Myanmar.
On December 13th the delegation visited the workshops in Bagan of the two artisans previously hosted by Restructura to discuss about future initiatives. On December 14th the delegation then met the Director of the Archaeological Museum of Bagan to discuss about projects in cooperation with MAO and finally visited the Lacquerware Technology College to define an academic agreement with the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti.
Cultural cooperation was also the subject on December 15th at the National Museum of Yangon and on December 18th in several meetings with local universities.
While on December 16th and 17th the delegation, after having been welcomed by the Mayor of Yangon Hla Mint and taken part in the final conference of the European cooperation project SWM - Solid Waste Management in Myanmar, whose lead partner is Torino, spent its time in economic and commercial meetings. More into detail, the Chamber of Commerce of Torino and the Chamber of Commerce of Yangon signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
An official meeting with representatives of the National League for Democracy, the political party that was the protagonist of an historic victory in the parliamentary elections of 2015 and that is led by Nobel prize and honorary citizen of Torino Aung San Suu Kyi, as well as a meeting with the Ambassador of Italy in Myanmar were also organised.
