In the afternoon of October 18th 2011 the Mayor of the City of Torino Piero Fassino attended, in Strasbourg at the Palais de l'Europe, the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the signature of the European Social Charter, promoted by the Council of Europe.
The European Social Charter in fact was signed during the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the Unification of Italy and Palazzo Madama, in the Piedmontese capital, was chosen to host the event. Previously in the morning the Mayor also took part in the 21st Session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, giving a speech on the issue of citizens' participation at local and regional level in Europe.
