The Deputy Mayor in charge of Environment of the City of Torino Domenico Mangone went on a mission to Brussels to ratify the adhesion of Torino to the Covenant of Mayors, an initiative of the European Commission aiming at actively involving the European cities in a path towards energetic and environmental sustainability.

The mission, fro February 9th to 11th, culminated on February 10 with the ceremony for the signature, at the hemicycle of the European Parliament and in the presence of the President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso, of the pact that so far involves more than 400 cities Europe-wide in a common path of raising awareness and concrete actions, on a voluntary basis.

The pact commits the European cities to draft an Action Plan aiming at the reduction of more than 20% of their emissions of greenhouse gases through policies and local measures for implementing the exploitation of renewable energy sources, for improving the energetic efficiency and for realising ad hoc programmes on energy conservation and rational utilisation of energy.
