The Mayor of Torino Sergio Chiamparino led a mission of the City in Bogotà for the official ceremony with whom Torino handed over to Bogotà the UNESCO "World Book Capital". The ceremony took place at the Book Fair of Bogotà. Rolando Picchioni Secretary General of the Foundation for Books, Music and Culture of Torino, also took part in the mission.
The celebrations, held on April 23rd and broadcasted live by the major Colombian television networks, coincided with the UNESCO World Book and Copyright Day. The rich and spectacular ceremony was chaired by the Mayor of Bogotà Luis Eduardo Garzòn and by the Mayor of Torino Sergio Chiamparino, Who received, on this occasion, the keys of the City of Bogotà.
The Mayor mentioned in his speech the fact that the title of "World Book Capital" meant for Torino a significant and concrete involvement of the district and of the population in a path of approach to literature and arts, highlighting the excellent annual results of the Book Fair of Torino, the width and international breath of projects as World Wide Torino at Atrium, Grand Re-tour and Bookstock, for an unprecedented cultural season of the city.
On April 24th the mission then continued the journey focusing its attention on social and cultural issues to end its stay with a meeting on April 25th at the Javeriana University, that recently signed a cooperation agreement with the Politecnico of Torino.
