On May 27th 2004 the Mayor of Turin Sergio Chiamparino launched in Lyon the proposal to organize - together with Mayors for Peace and in collaboration with TOROC - a big event in Jerusalem in 2005 to present the Olympic Truce during the 2006 Olympic Winter Games.
The proposal was presented on the occasion of the meeting held in Lyon with the promoters of the Geneva Accord - Yossi Beilin, former Israeli Minister for Justice, and Yasser Rabbo, Palestinian Minister for Culture - with the purpose of studying a working programme for the December 2004 Lyon Conference of Mayors for Peace.
The aim is to make the Olympic Truce coinciding with a concrete attempt to restore the dialogue about the Israeli-Palestinian issue. Turin has a twinning agreement with both Gaza (Palestine) and Haifa (Israel) since 1997: it is long since very careful about peace issues.
