From September 4th to 13th 2003 the Mayor of Torino, Sergio Chiamparino, led an institutional mission to cities in Brazil and Argentina, with the aim of confirming Torino’s commitment to the Brazilian and Argentine communities for projects already underway and evaluating new opportunities. The delegation was composed of representatives from the Comune di Torino, AMIAT, GGT, The Foreign Department of the Piemontese Chambers of Commerce and the Association OASI.
On September 5th 2003 the delegation visited the twinned City of Cordoba (Argentina), where an agreement for cooperation in economic, cultural, health and transport matters was signed by the Mayor of Cordoba, German Kammerath, and the Mayor of Torino Sergio Chiamparino. Before the signing, there was an official ceremony of consignment of the keys to the City. The delegation also met the Governor and the Consul.
On September 9th the delegation reached Brasilia where they met the Brazilian President Ignacio Lula da Silva. During the meeting they discussed topics related to international cooperation and development in Brazilian cities and businesses. Subsequently, the Italian delegation met representatives of various government ministries at the Embassy (economics, commerce, agriculture, international cooperation, transport and environment).
On September 10th the delegation met representatives of the Brazilian cities of Campinas, Santo André, Nuova Jguacu and Sao Paolo, with whom the City of Torino is carrying out cooperative projects in various departments (transport, refuse management, energy).
On September 11th the delegation was in Campo Grande where they visited the Research Centre and the St. Julia Hospital and took part in technical meetings with other representatives of the local society and with local entrepreneurs.
