The twinning between Nagoya and Torino was approved by the Torino City Council on 11 May 2005 and signed in Nagoya during the Aichi World Exposition and the Nagoya Sister Cities Festival, in the 50th anniversary of the cultural agreement between Italy and Japan.

The twinning agreement aims at establishing and strengthening collaboration and friendship by promoting exchanges in the field of commerce and trade, culture, environment and design.
