DARK BLUE route

Via Garibaldi and its surroundings:  the Roman road, hints of military history and commitment to solidarity.

An historical route, among ancient eastern civilizations and modern dictatorship, heroics, ramparts, instruments of war and paths of faith.

Map of the whole routeMuseums' visitor information:

Via Garibaldi,  beginning at Piazza Castello, was a Roman decuman and later a medieval road. Nowadays it is still one of the main and more crowded pedestrian streets in the city.

The road passes through the ancient  heart of Turin, “the square city”, linking it to the eighteenth century urban expansion area. It ends at Piazza Statuto, the last of the great nineteenth century squares to serve as entrance to the city (1864). Walking along  Via Garibaldi you turn to Via Milano and pass  through the eighteenth century Piazza Palazzo di Città. The City Hall looks onto this ancient square which was once Piazza delle Erbe (Market Square). Keep on walking up Via Milano until you cross via San Domenico, where you will find the homonym church, the only well preserved gothic example in town, and then reach the MAO - Museo d'Arte Orientale (Museum of Eastern Art).
