Gob Squad

"Safe" è uno spettacolo multimediale fatto per il teatro. "Safe" è in parte teatro, in parte disastro aereo, in parte concerto rock. Lo spettacolo segue l'azione a ritroso, dal luogo di un incidente che fornisce il primo sguardo sulle stelle cadute. Sul palcoscenico, un grande schermo video, un cocktail bar e una rock band sono circondati da un cerchio magico di piccole luci della ribalta, che formano un'area sicura per la recita. Lo spettacolo contiene un miscuglio, seducentemente ingannevole, di immagini dal vivo e registrate, presentate da sei giovani di belle speranze aggrappati alla convinzione che avrebbero potuto essere il più grande complesso rock di tutti i tempi… se solo avessero imparato a suonare i loro strumenti. Il loro viaggio turbolento viene ripetutamente interrotto e sviato man mano che disastro, confusione e paura si susseguono sul palcoscenico. Le probabilità sono contro di loro e nessuno ha il manuale per far andare bene le cose. Non possono suonare per salvarsi la vita, ma, questa volta, devono farlo.
Un gruppo anglo-tedesco, il cui lavoro è spesso bilingue. I Gob Squad lavorano insieme, senza un regista, a pianificazione, concepimento, organizzazione e realizzazione dell'opera. I Gob Squad sono in residenza d'artista presso il Centro per l'Arte Contemporanea di Podewill, Berlino.

"Safe" is a multi-media performance made for the theatre. "Safe" is part theatre, part plane disaster, part rock concert. The show follows the action in reverse, with a crash site providing the first glimpse of the fallen stars. On stage, a large video screen, cocktail bar and rock band are framed by a magical circle of tiny showbiz lights, providing a safe area for the action to take place. The performance contains a seductively deceptive mixture of both live and recorded images, presented by six hopefuls who hold on to the belief that they could have been the greatest rock band of all time... if only they'd learned to play their instruments. Their turbulent journey is repeatedly interrupted and diverted as disaster, confusion and stage fright take over. The odds are stacked against them and no-one has the manual for making things better. They can't play to save their lives, but this time they have to.
An English-German ensemble whose work is often bilingual, Gob Squad are committed to working collaboratively, without a director, on the planning, conception, devising and performing of the work. THE MEMBERS: Sean Patten, Liane Sommers, Sarah Thom and Alex Large from the U.K.; Berit Stumpf and Johanna Freiburg from Germany. Other artists has been invited to collaborate to this project: Simon Will, Hagen Gottschalck, Leigh Haas, Martin Cooper. The Gob Squad are artists in residence at Podewill, Centre for Contemporary Arts, Berlin.
