Oltre ad essere caratteristicamente molto inglesi, le mie storie tendono a trattare temi che potrebbero essere a grandi linee definiti di "politica sociale": stilisticamente, i miei fumetti attingono in egual misura da fonti molto diverse. Per quanto riguarda il tipo di storie che scrivo, non mi sembra che appartengano ad alcun genere particolare. Essendo cresciuto all'epoca del thatcherismo, quando avere una coscienza sociale era fuori moda, e avendo scelto come forma di espressione artistica un cult di confine evitato e disprezzato, la mia vita e il mio lavoro sono stati piuttosto marginalizzati. Ma, vista l'esistenza di Hollywood e di MTV, e l'ossessione popolare per l'imitazione degli stili di vita di chi è ricco e famoso, una cultura dell'aspirazione che riesce a rendere tutti infelici, sono contento di celebrare invece le esistenze più avvincenti dei poveri e oscuri.

Apart from being characteristically very English, my comic strip stories tend to deal with what could be broadly termed "social politics": stylistically, my comic artwork has equal influences from very divergent sources. In terms of the types of stories I write, they seem to have no particular genre. Growing up in an era of Thatcherism with an unfashionable social conscience, expressing myself artistically at the cult fringe of a shunned and disregarded medium, my life and work is somewhat marginalised. But, given Hollywood and MTV, and the popular obsession with the lifestyles of the rich and famous, a culture of aspiration that manages to make everyone unhappy, I am content to celebrate instead the stylish lives of the poor and obscure.
