Il Dance Theatre of Gdansk abbina alla forza del teatro fisico polacco il linguaggio dinamico della danza contemporanea. Il programma consiste di tre pezzi intitolati "Fragments", in cui ogni parte esplora il nostro rapporto ed il nostro concetto dell’"altro", a cominciare da "Fragments of Light", un pezzo che esamina il peso della vita, la speranza, la forza di sopportazione, e la nostra relazione con l’altro; la musica è di Arvo Part e H.M. Gorecki. "Shadows" un duetto potente che scava dentro i mondi di e tra donne; la musica è di Jean Martinon, Paul Giger e una registrazione di aborigeni australiani. Infine "Whispers", un viaggio d’intimità ed isolamento, musica di H. M. Gorecki.
La compagnia è stata fondata nel 1994 da Wojciech Mochniej e Melissa Monteros. Nel 1997 Aurora Lubos si è aggiunta alla compagnia. Wojciech Mochniej è il cuore del Dance Theatre of Gdanski: ha fatto il manager, il regista, il ballerino e il coreografo. Nel 1997 ha fondato Dance EXplosion, un festival di danza di 4 giorni a Danzica, il cui obiettivo era quello di presentare il lavoro di coreografi nascenti in un contesto non competitivo. Melissa Monteros, coreografa e insegnate, è arrivata in Polonia nel 1991 come ospite del Teatro Studio e del Teatro di Danza Slesiano e da allora è un’attiva presenza nel mondo della danza. Nel 1993 ha ricevuto il prestigioso "Fulbright Award" per la Polonia. Wojciech Mochniej e Melissa Monteros sono stati invitati a molti festival internazionali e, nel 1998, il Sindaco della Città di Danzica li ha insigniti di un Premio alle Arti e alla Cultura per "creatività, creazione e contributi allo sviluppo della danza contemporanea".

The Dance Theatre of Gdansk combines the force of Polish physical theatre with the dynamic language of contemporary dance. The program, entitled "Fragments" consist of three works, each one a "Fragment" exploring our relationship to, and concept of the "other". "Fragments of Light", a work exploring burden, hope, the power to endure, and our relationship to another, with music by Arvo Part and H.M. Gorecki. "Shadows" is a powerful duet that delves into the worlds of and between women, with music by Jean Martinon and Paul Giger, with an Australian Aboriginal recording. The last piece, "Whispers", is a journey through intimacy and isolation, with music by H. M. Gorecki.
The company was founded in 1994 by Wojciech Mochniej and Melissa Monteros. Aurora Lubos, the third member, came to the company in 1997. Wojciech Mochniej is the heart of the Dance Theatre of Gdanski, functioning as manager, director, dancer and choreographer. In 1997 he founded Dance EXplosion, a four day dance festival in Gdansk, committed to presenting the work of developing choreographers in a non-competitive environment. Melissa Monteros, choreographer and teacher, travelled to Poland in 1991 as a guest artist for Theatre Studio and Silesian Dance Theatre and has been an active participant in the dance world there since then. She received the prestigious "Fulbright Award" granted to Poland in 1993. Wojciech Mochniej and Melissa Monteros have been frequent guests in many international festivals. In 1998, the Mayor of the City of Gdansk presented them with an Arts and Culture Award for "creativity, creation, and contributions to the development of contemporary dance".
